Will Sony backtrack and cancel the removal of a highly appreciated and used feature on PS5 and PS4? An unexpected twist could change everything.
A few hours ago, PS5 users had a very unpleasant surprise. Starting next week, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the abandonment of a major feature from its last two PlayStation consoles. A choice which greatly displeased the community, but which is perhaps not final.
A PS5 and PS4 feature saved at the last minute?
This week, Sony sent a notification to PS5 players to inform them that it will no longer be possible to share screenshots and video captures on X, among other things. “Starting November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly Twitter) will no longer work on PlayStation 5 and PS4 consoles. This includes the ability to view any content posted on X from PS5/PS4, as well as the ability to post and view gameplay-related content, trophies, and other activity on 5″.
Why such a turnaround when the functionality is highly appreciated on PS5 like PS4? It’s a question of big money. Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, and changed the name to Currently, all companies that want to use the social network are forced to pay. Sony is probably against this new policy, as is Microsoft. The feature was actually removed earlier this year on Xbox Series.
Shortly after, the X News Daily account said “X intends to become a major streaming platform, but it’s going to be less convenient now that Xbox and PlayStation integration has been removed”. A message that made Elon Musk, the boss of X, react, who promises to “to consider the question”. Musk to save Twitter on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One? A twist that we didn’t see coming, even if for the moment, nothing has been done. So assume that from this Monday, November 13, 2023, you will no longer be able to share your PS5 and PS4 exploits via X.
A new update for the PlayStation 5
The PS5 updated this week, but don’t expect any big changes. Firmware 23.02-08.20.02, released on November 8, 2023, is content “to improve system performance”. It’s light and still vague, but that’s how it is. The latest patches have been much more comprehensive and have notably enabled:
- Easier management of music via the Control Center
- The introduction of the voice command “What’s new?” » to view recent features
- Dolby Atmos support
- Compatibility with 8 TB M.2 SSDs compared to 4 TB previously
- Greater accessibility with the possibility of connecting a second controller to navigate the menus or help someone in a game. But also the addition of haptic feedback when you are on the dashboard
- A whole bunch of new features about Parties, Activity Cards, Game Help and even languages for keyboard input
