Netflix will soon be back with this big hit from 2023 which will lead to a series of projects this year. We are expecting no less than two big films! A sequel and an alternative version which should certainly please fans of the first hour.
Last year, Netflix released some hell of a hit for us. One of them came from the smoking imagination of Zack Snyder. Rebel MoonA Star Wars Snyderian, marked the month of last December, but not only for good reasons. The film widely divided opinion. The press mostly took it down, highlighting nauseating special effects, a plot that goes in all directions and a slight abuse of slow motion.
Rebel Moon is a big hit, but not a real success…
It’s hard to prove them wrong. The film looks like pure adolescent delirium, it mixes genres without ever succeeding in making a truly pleasant cocktail and makes us follow a troop of bodybuilder heroes who all seek to have more class than each other. The camera then glorifies, through heroic poses with heavy slow motion on a green background, the slightest movement of this motley troupe, whose members all seem to come from the same mold.
As a bonus, after almost 2h30 of film, we still don’t understand everything, we don’t have the impression of knowing the heroes, the extent of the universe which nevertheless teases a world as vast as George’s saga Lucas. Fortunately, there is Kora, the main protagonist played by the charming Sofia Boutella who runs the house at arm’s length. A barely honest entertainment for many, but already adored by Zack Snyder fans, as always. This did not prevent the film from being a hit on Netflix and preparing sequels, a video game but also a surprise.
A sequel and an uncensored version are coming, it’s going to be a hit!
Like with Justice League, the director has prepared a new version of his latest film. A Rebel Moon rated R, the equivalent of under 16 in our country, will be released this year as Snyder announced in a podcast at the beginning of the month.
It will almost be a new film, “as if it were happening in a parallel universe” according to the director. When the film was in the works, Netflix reportedly requested that Rebel Moon is accessible to a wide audience and that the film respects the 2-hour standard. Snyder would therefore have cut nearly 200 pages of script by dividing his work into two parts. He would also have made numerous concessions, which, according to him, explains the poor reception of his feature film.
But good news, Netflix finally told Zack Snyder that he had carte blanche to propose and release a second version of his film. Total artistic freedom which will result in a longer film, therefore new sequences, but also much more marked violence. We have a pretty clear idea of certain scenes with hectoliters of blood, but for the rest, we’ll wait and see.
Release dates for the new version of Rebel Moon and its sequel
This new version of Rebel Moon will be revealed during the summer of 2024, so it’s happening rather quickly. The second film will arrive much earlier, Rebel Moon Part 2: The Slasher will arrive on April 19, 2024. Will he also have the right to his long, uncensored version? Good question. In any case, the trailer once again promises us a film rich in action scenes and slow motion, the house’s trademark.
