During his trip to Sceaux on April 23, Gabriel Attal shared in which areas of public services AI will be used. The Prime Minister describes this technology as “revolution” while announcing the development of a “sovereign, French artificial intelligence”.
AI to respond to requests sent to the tax authorities
Albert is the name of the AI that the tax administration will set up to respond to the 16 million annual requests from users. The aim is to simplify procedures while reducing the workload of civil servants. This will allow, according to Gabriel Attal, to automate the analysis of regulations while providing answers “accelerated”. The work of the agents will be “made less painful and more interesting” thanks to this tool.
AI is already used by the tax administration to track down free riders and the Prime Minister welcomed this: “Since last year, AI has revolutionized the fight against tax fraud by automatically detecting a certain number of undeclared assets on public databases. The sovereign AI developed by the tax administration spotted 140,000 cases of fraud and recovered 40 million euros”.
Supporting the ecological transition via AI
AI will also be used to support the ecological transition by lending a hand to the regional directorates for the environment, planning and housing (DREAL). Every year, around 4,000 environmental projects will be “pre-instructed” by AI. The sovereign model will reduce project analysis time “which are hundreds, sometimes thousands of pages”. The administration will save “time and money”specifies Gabriel Attal.
Students will benefit from AI tools
For the 2024 school year, students will benefit from Aristotle, an AI capable of generating multiple choice questions from each student’s lessons and assessments. The model adapts to everyone’s level and can help during revision. A second tool will be deployed for students with disabilities. This model will transform “the sound of videos in subtitles”. We are talking about more than 3000 hours of lessons. Then this AI “will be transposed to other public services” explains Gabriel Attal. For example, for transcriptions of legal hearings, medical reports or even complaint filings.
The Prime Minister concludes by explaining that “so many other cases of AI in our public services will emerge over the coming months, from the detection of fires and forest fires by augmented drones to the HR management of public service personnel”.
