Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel celebrate Christmas in the traditional way together with their children Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar. However, this year something is different from their usual planning.

Christmas is getting closer and closer and the anticipation of the holidays is increasing – including among the Swedish royals. It has now been revealed how Princess Victoria, 46, and Prince Daniel, 50, will spend the festival this year with their children Princess Estelle, 11, and Prince Oscar, 7.

Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel celebrate Christmas traditionally

The Crown Princess’s family loves it traditionally. A few days before the festival, Victoria and Daniel send their Christmas greetings, and on Christmas Eve itself a routine has proven itself: they take turns celebrating either at König’s Carl Gustaf, 77, and Queen Silvia, 79, or with Daniel’s parents. Last year it was Ewa Westling, 79, and Olle Westling, 78, who hosted the festival in their home in tranquil Ockelbo. The small town where Prince Daniel grew up is about two hours’ drive north of Stockholm. So it should have been Victoria’s parents’ turn this year. But the “Svensk Damtidning” wants to know that something is different this time.

Ewa and Olle Westling are preparing for their arrival

According to information from the paper, it will be Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel themselves who will host Christmas in their home for their families this year. Accordingly, the venue for the celebrations will not be the King’s Drottningholm Palace, but rather Haga Palace in Solna near Stockholm, where the Crown Princess lives with her family. So Victoria’s in-laws have to pack their bags and travel from Ockelbo – a journey they will no doubt be happy to make to spend the festive season with their grandchildren. Carl Gustaf and Silvia should also be happy to celebrate Christmas together this year with their eldest daughter and her children. They had to do without it last year. It will be particularly exciting for Estelle and Oscar to open presents under the tree with both sets of grandparents.

Queen Silvia has a big birthday

This year’s Christmas is also very special for the Swedish royal family for another reason: Queen Silvia celebrates her 80th birthday on the day before Christmas Eve. According to “Svensk Damtidning”, the German-born wife of King Carl Gustaf is expected to invite people to a larger family dinner on December 23rd, to which Ewa and Olle Westling are also expected to come. Silvia maintains a good relationship with her son-in-law’s parents.
