In the latest version of its Android beta and on the official iOS version, WhatsApp has deployed video calls with up to 32 participants. Enough to organize work meetings with several people, or even take online courses.
Meta, owner of WhatsApp, has rolled out video calls to 32 participants on the Android beta and the official iOS version of its instant messaging service.
32 participants in a video call: it’s possible on WhatsApp
As usual, this is the site WABetaInfo which reveals the information. Users can start video calls with 32 participants in total. In reality, it’s been possible for a long time: almost a year ago, Meta officially announced it. Note that these calls can be launched by a person, by selecting participants from among their contacts. This doesn’t work the same way as video calls triggered from a group chat.
Until now, there was a serious limitation to this functionality: you could only select 15 participants each time. You therefore had to start a call, then add the other participants of your choice afterwards. This time, it’s possible from the start.
Currently, availability of this feature is limited. On the Android beta version, only certain users have access to it. Although nothing indicates it in the WhatsApp changelog, we can assume that video calls with 32 participants will be rolled out gradually in the coming weeks. As for iOS users, the functionality is already available: you just need to update the application.
