This is how you turn the cell phone keyboard into a trackpad!

One of the most used functions in everyday life is the smartphone keyboard. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to use the iPhone keyboard as a trackpad and quickly position the cursor where you want it. If you own a Samsung Galaxy, our life hack will work for you too!

Editing texts on a smartphone is usually not that easy. If you’ve ever watched Keynote presentations of new software features from Apple and Google, you might remember the moments when text-editing features were introduced. Such innovations are usually met with great applause from the public. That’s because on a limited screen, any keyboard extension is welcome!

Depending on the size of the screen (and our fingers), some tricks are real life hacks. And one magic tip that has helped me streamline article editing on iPhone is to use the keyboard as a trackpad. I would like to pass this tip on to the NextPit community today! As already mentioned, you can also use the touchpad function of the keyboard in the Samsung One UI with a Galaxy device.

The only requirement is that you use the standard version of the Apple keyboard. So if you open an application that allows you to enter and edit text, you have the option of turning the smartphone keyboard into a trackpad. To do this, simply follow these steps:

  1. Launches the iPhone keyboard.
  2. Long press the spacebar.
  3. Wait for the letters to disappear.
  4. Move your finger across the keyboard to position the cursor where you want to edit.
  5. That’s it! Your iPhone keyboard is now a trackpad!

Of course, this function is not only available with iOS, manufacturers such as Samsung also offer it. As with the iPhone, you must use the Samsung keyboard in “normal” mode. But don’t worry, if this is not the case, then simply follow the path already described:

  1. Launches the Samsung keyboard on the Galaxy smartphone.
  2. Long press the spacebar.
  3. Waits for the cursor control icon to appear on the screen.
  4. Move your finger across the keyboard to position the cursor where you want to edit.
  5. That’s it! You’ve turned your Samsung keyboard into a trackpad!

Personally, I found the operation on the iOS keyboard to be more precise than the Samsung keyboard, plus Apple provides a larger keyboard face tracking field to move the cursor in text.

In addition to the standard keyboards of the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy, you can also use the space bar as a touchpad with the Google keyboard (Gboard). However, movement is quite limited as you can only move the cursor from right to left on the same line.
