Do you know the “dad bod”, literally, “daddy’s body”? A March 2021 survey realized by the dating site Dating.com announces its big comeback. The survey was carried out on 2000 participants and shows that for 20% of those questioned, the appearance of the body does not matter when it comes to meeting a partner. Better still, only 15% of respondents value the physical Barbie or Ken.
Regarding male body preferences, 75% of respondents said they prefer a “soft and round” body type over a more athletic physique. How to explain it? According to Maria Sullivan, vice president of Dating.com, athletic bodies are seen as attractiveness ideals in popular culture. Yet in real life, they don’t count that much in love affairs. People, especially straight women, are more interested in the personality of their potential lovers.

We can say that after a year of successive confinements, where our relationship with the body has been shaken, this is excellent news! It shows that we can overcome certain diktats and, ultimately, grossophobia. In any case, on the men’s side … Because on the women’s side, the poll tells us nothing about the popularity of “mum bod”.
