Here is a fairly unknown property of RGB keyboards: the possibility of using it as a giant screen.

In any case, this is the improbable challenge that SignalRGB set itself by lining up less than 40 RGB keyboards on a wall for an impressive result.

RGB lighting at its best

We are now used to seeing screens on RGB keyboards, but the idea of mounting several to make a giant screen is relatively new. The premiere goes to Logitech, which had mounted a similar installation at a PAX event a few years ago.

But SignalRGB has decided to set the bar very high with a giant screen comprising no less than 40 keyboards, arranged in eight rows of five devices. The keyboards in question are WhirlwindFX Element v2 models.

In the video above, we can see SignalRGB in action to complete this project. Nothing fancy about the setup: just four nails securing each keyboard to a black surface, with USB hubs and a slew of wires to power all that paraphernalia.

Once the giant screen was mounted in less than an hour, it came to life thanks to SignalRGB’s proprietary software, according to a grid and assignment of the display specific to each keyboard. And the strongest thing is that this screen while RGB keyboards seems to take only 2% of the processor’s capacity.

yes we can play DOOM on this screen

To demonstrate the effectiveness of its installation, SignalRGB has spoiled us with various demonstrations. From concert-worthy light effects to a game display, there’s something for everyone.

Thereby, pong, mario, Minecraft and even Crysis or DOOM Eternal were treated to a small cinematic or gameplay sequence broadcast exclusively by the RGB keys of the 40 aligned keyboards. Even if the result is particularly pixelated on more modern games, it still looks better than DOOM on Windows Notepad.

The SignalRGB experience is in any case impressive, even if there is still room for improvement, according to the admissions of the YouTube channel. In any case, it will probably take a long time before such a display is among our recommendations for the best PC gamer screens.
