This is what spring does to the female body

Finally the sun is shining more outside! And this creates a real emotional chaos for many people – including spring feelings. In fact, spring turns things upside down in the woman's body. We are totally motivated to do something new, one woman may want to slim down a bit, the other is looking for a new partner with fresh courage. But why are we so positive?

The total hormone chaos

There are two main reasons for our good mood and motivation: hormones and sunlight. When the sun shines more in spring, this slows down the production of the so-called sleep hormone melatonin, which is increasingly distributed in winter. It makes us sleep better and likes to make us tired all day.

If the melatonin level drops in spring, the level of another hormone increases: We release more and more the "male hormone" testosterone, which gives us a lot of power. It not only provides motivation and optimism, but also gives us confidence. As a result, we suddenly seem to be able to achieve our goals (for example, losing some weight) much more easily.

Spring makes you happy

However, the sunlight also influences us in another way: On the one hand, it gets light earlier, which makes it easier for us to get out of bed. On the other hand, it boosts the production of the happiness hormones dopamine and serotonin and helps the body to form the "sun vitamin" D – which also has a mood-enhancing effect. Some experts therefore assume that mild depressive moods can even be cured if you spend more time in the sun in spring.

Sunlight as therapy

All of these are pretty good reasons to look forward to spring. Conveniently, we don't even have to be on the move, which would not be a good thing considering the current situation caused by the corona virus.
