This is what the future electric Volvo XC90 should look like

Volvo is currently working on the development of its future electric XC90 which could take the name of EXC90. The first images from the patent filing have just leaked.

Volvo Concept Recharge

Today, all manufacturers are massively electrifying their range. And the reason is simple. Indeed, the latter must prepare for the ban on the sale of new cars in 2035. If Volvo had already started to electrify its catalog, the firm announced in March 2021 in a press release its desire to become a 100% electric brand. from 2030. In addition to the XC40 and C40 Recharge, other models should therefore soon see the light of day.

A 100% electric XC90

Among them, a 100% electric version of the Volvo XC90, which is currently in preparation. To tell the truth, this one was initially supposed to see the light of day during the year 2022, but the shortage of semiconductors as well as the logistical problems caused by the war in Ukraine should undoubtedly delay the launch of this new model. So little information has so far been revealed, some images have just leaked. They would come from a patent filing made by the manufacturer and spotted by the Worldscoop forum.

Regarding the name of this future model, Volvo has registered the trademark EXC90 on July 13 on the EUPIO website. And our colleagues from Motor1 specify that the boss of the brand, Hakan Samuelsson, confirmed last year that the name of the successor to the current seven-seater SUV would begin with a vowel. If some media had counted on the name “Embla”, this new generation would therefore rather follow the already known nomenclature and would then replace the XC90

Some changes

For now, no information has been revealed by Volvo on the engine of its future electric XC90. However, we know that this one will be very strongly inspired by the Recharge concept, unveiled in June 2021. The exterior style should evolve and be modernized, while retaining a certain affiliation with the version that we know today. Moreover, the two versions will be sold in parallel. On board, the presentation should also take a leap forward, with an even more technological driving position. The touch screen in the vertical position would be retained, with a new on-board system.

Expected for 2022, the future electric Volvo XC90 (EXC90) could finally see the light of day next year, due to the current situation. For the time being, the brand has remained very discreet about this newcomer and has not communicated on a reveal date. As we mentioned in a previous article, the entry ticket should be around 90,000 euros, depriving the large Swedish SUV of an ecological bonus.
