this is what this new Chinese electric car promises

The Chinese manufacturer Yuanhang unveils its new electric sedan, called Y6. Still completely unknown, the latter should make headlines thanks to its incredible autonomy, exceeding 1,000 kilometers. What should Tesla be afraid of?

Over time, we begin to get to know the many Chinese brands that are arriving. We obviously think of MG, already present in Europe for several years, or of BYD, which should become the number 1 in electric vehicles in the world. But there are others less known but on the verge of becoming so, like Zeekr for example.

An interesting sedan

And then there is Yuanhang. If you’ve never heard of it before, don’t worry, it’s completely normal. Because this young manufacturer, whose name means “journey” in Chinese, was created in 2022 and made official during the Chengdu show. It is actually the premium division of the Dayun Group, based in Yuncheng. And the least we can say is that the firm has great ambitions, since it plans to launch no less than four models.

And now the first has just been revealed in its final version, after having already been shown last year. This is the Y6, an electric sedan that will directly compete with the Tesla Model S, as well as the BYD Seal and the Nio ET7. Not to mention of course the new Xiaomi SU7 unveiled yesterday with great fanfare. Moreover, some will note a certain air of resemblance…

The new Chinese sedan indeed sports very clean lines, designed to optimize the Cx (drag coefficient), which has not yet been revealed. However, we note the presence of handles integrated into the bodywork, which suggests that the latter will be quite good, undoubtedly approaching the 0.208 of the Tesla Model S. The site Car News China indicates rather generous dimensions, with 5.27 meters long2.0 meters wide and 1.50 meters high.

The wheelbase is as for him announced at 3.13 meters, which suggests that the car offers good habitability for the occupants. On board, the presentation is modern and refined, while the sedan has a large 17.38 inch touch screen, which reminds us of that of its American rival. The latter is associated with a 10.3-inch digital handset as well as a 70-inch augmented reality head-up display as specified the brand’s website.

Great autonomy

In the rear, three passengers can sit in heated, ventilated and massaging seats, like those at the front. The latter can be separated by an armrest incorporating a touch screen. If the trunk volume has not yet been announced, we note the presence of a small frunk in the front. And under the hood, what do we find on this very interesting sedan?

Well the latter is available in several versions, with two or four-wheel drive. The first claims 250 kW, i.e. 339 horsepower for 400 Nm of torque sent to the rear, for a 0 to 100 km/h achieved in 5.9 seconds. Two all-wheel drive variants will be offered, with 500 kW (679 horsepower) and 745 Nm of torque or with 520 kW (707 horsepower) and 850 Nm. What achieve 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.

Three battery capacities will be offered, namely 88.42, 100 and 150 kW, which then gives a range of between 620 and 1,020 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. This corresponds more or less to 550 and 900 kilometers WLTP. Enough to get closer to the Nio ET7, which has just broken a world record. Finally, if the charging power has not been detailed, it will be necessary to count 30 minutes to go from 20 to 80%.

The new Yuanhang Y6 is also equipped with level 2 semi-autonomous driving and can park without driver intervention, thanks to radars at the front and rear. The sedan is already available to order, at a price displayed from 329,800 yuan, which is equivalent to 42,174 euros. The latter will, however, be significantly increased if the car one day arrives with us.
