The driver will be able to travel 1.5 million kilometers with it, promises the firm.
When looking to buy an electric car, we generally focus on the range offered, or even the charging time. But another criterion could soon gain importance: battery life. In fact, batteries are the number 1 reason for the high price of electric cars and it can be extremely expensive to replace them.
The manufacturer Yutong Group understands this well. The Chinese firm took advantage of a launch in its native country to announce a small revolution – yet another – in the world of batteries for electric vehicles. By teaming up with CATL, one of the giants in the sector, it has succeeded in developing a battery capable of lasting 1.5 million kilometers.

Soon, batteries will be able to last up to 15 years
A promising announcement, since Yutong Group also ensures that these batteries will be guaranteed for 15 years. Currently, the average battery life is 10 years. This is therefore a significant step forward, which will offer manufacturers a new asset to attract customers and, for the latter, the assurance of making a reasoned purchase that will last over time.
However, it should be noted that Yutong seems above all to target professionals with this battery. In fact, the company plans to first equip heavy goods vehicles as well as vans. In other words, this battery is positioned as an excellent way to reduce costs for companies relying on service vehicles.
But it’s a safe bet that this technology will one day arrive on cars intended for the general public. By then, however, fear may have disappeared among consumers.
