LAs of “incidents on questions of secularism” and “attempts at community entry” in the public schools of his commune, the mayor Les Républicains de Marignane, Éric Le Dissès, wrote to the Minister of National Education, Pap Ndiaye. In this letter, which the elected representative of Bouches-du-Rhône published on his Facebook page, he proposes to experiment with two measures which, he is certain, “will bear fruit in the medium term and will help to instil in our young a republican and patriotic spirit”.
To “put France and the idea of the nation back at the heart of schools”, Éric Le Dissès proposes to organize a raising of the colors every Monday morning in the schoolyard. A solemn moment during which the children will sing the Marseillaise, alongside the teaching staff. The mayor of Marignane also proposes to reintroduce the uniform in primary schools to “put an end to clothing inequalities” and “clothing provocations”.

“Common Sense Measures”
Anticipating criticism, Éric Le Dissès assures us that these are not “reactionary measures”, but “common sense measures, which remind everyone that we must unite and be one with the emblems of our Republic”. His proposal, however, received the approval of many of his constituents on Facebook, even if some are skeptical that a simple uniform can “erase the social contempt or the obscurantism of some”. It remains to be seen whether this letter will give rise to a response from Pap Ndiaye.
