This mother from Dunkirk shared her feelings after giving birth during confinement. A frightening and unprecedented birth that she describes in a testimony on her Facebook page.

During confinement and even afterwards, maternity units have taken many measures in response to the Covid-19 epidemic. On March 17, at the start of the epidemic, some maternity hospitals did not allow the spouse to accompany the expectant mother during childbirth. Other clinics have adapted by accepting the father when labor has started. An uncertain context which made this experience quite stressful, even traumatic for many women, including Adelina Berteyn, this young mother gave birth to her first child in full confinement, on April 1, 2020. This Friday, May 29, she wanted to come back to this slightly complicated period for her:

" I am a Coronamom!
– I finished my confined pregnancy
– I went to the last follow-up appointments alone
– I even had canceled appointments, just a phone call to follow up
– I gave birth during pandemic 2020
– I gave birth in full confinement
– I was confined in the hospital room with my baby and his dad without visiting permission
– I didn't have family support for the first few days
– I could only introduce my son to my family through videos
– I don't have adequate post-partum follow-up
– I'm confined to my home with my baby and his dad
– I live with this fear of catching the virus while shopping (the only way out that his dad and I allow ourselves) and to pass it on to my son, who is still fragile
– I had a baby blues, almost a DPP, accentuated, amplified by the stress caused by this pandemic
– I have to stay isolated for the birth of my first child
My son is a Coronababy! "
, writes Adelina.

Remote meetings

The confinement also impacted the whole family, since family members were unable to meet little Jamie as planned. Also, all of the baby’s medical follow-up had to be done remotely, via video calls.
"- He was born during the pandemic 2020
– He did not experience the warm and benevolent hugs of his grandparents, uncles, aunts, godfather and godmother for his first days!
– He has not had adequate follow-up with a pediatrician since his discharge from hospital
– It is only followed by videos and it is us, parents, who must weigh and measure it as we can
– He cannot access post natal lessons and socialize with other babies
But let's face it, the father was able to attend the birth and stay with us in the room the days after the birth!
And we have a great anecdote to tell our or our other (s) future (s) children and our grandchildren ",
she says.

Despite everything, this young woman wishes to reassure: "I am a coronamom and my son is a coronababy but we are in good health and are happy despite the current conditions!", concludes Adelina.

All's well That ends well !
