After watching this trailer, you’ll never sleep in the dark again! Le Croque-mitaine, the film adaptation of Stephen King’s terrifying short story, will be released in our theaters on May 31, 2023.
After having traumatized children for generations, the Boogeyman will soon land in our dark rooms… Directed by Rob Savage, to whom we owe the very clever horror film Host, and written by the duo of Screenwriters of A Quiet Place, Scott Beck & Bryan Woods, the feature film is adapted from a short story by the master of horror, Stephen King.
Published in 1973 in the American magazine Rider, the story of the Croque-Mitaine was subsequently included in the collection Dance of Death (1978), which brings together about twenty terrifying short stories.
The film follows Sadie Harper (Sophie Thatcher), a young high school student, and her little sister Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair), whose mother has just died. Devastated by his own pain, their father Will (Chris Messina), a therapist by profession, gives them neither the support nor the affection that they try to claim from him.
When a desperate patient (David Dastmalchian) shows up unexpectedly at their home asking for help, he brings in a terrifying entity that preys on families and feeds on their greatest suffering.
Stephen King himself gave this trailer a “Truly terrifying” on his Twitter account.
Which is a real guarantee of quality when you know that the author is known for his somewhat obstinate nature and that he never hesitates to openly criticize the adaptations of his novels.
He had said of the 1984 adaptation of Firestarter: ” It’s the worst of the lot, although story-wise it’s very close to the original. But it is tasteless; it’s like canteen mashed potatoes. There are things going on in terms of special effects in this movie that don’t make sense to me.“.
Co-produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen (Stranger Things in particular), Le Croque-Mitaine will be released in theaters on May 31, 2023. Get ready for some sleepless nights.
