Insomniac Games, the studio in charge of the development of Spider-Man 2, explains the absence of a feature highly requested by players since the announcement of the PS5 exclusivity.
The challenge ahead Spider Man 2 promises to be tough: doing as well as its illustrious predecessor released in September 2018. When it was released, Spiderman immediately won over the audience. The spin-off Miles Morales from November 2020 also rained, but fans were already waiting for the very big piece, Spider Man 2. Obviously, Insomniac Games does not intend to rest on its laurels and will offer a big novelty in this episode: the possibility of alternating on the fly between Peter Parker and Miles Morales by exploring the open world. The presence of the two heroes logically raised a question that Insomniac Games decided to answer at length.
Insomniac Games Talks About a Much-Requested Feature in Spider-Man 2
Alternating between Peter Parker and Miles Morales is great, but some players wondered if a co-op mode would allow them to share the adventure. Insomniac Games has already answered in the negative on this point, but the studio returns this time in more detail to the question in an interview with the Washington Post. Insomniac explains that the studio never wanted to make a multiplayer game. Like many exclusives developed by PlayStation’s internal studios, Spider Man 2 will be single-player only and the game was designed like this from the start of production, says Bryan Intihar, creative director of the PS5 exclusive.
From day one, we’ve always said we wanted to create a single-player experience. There are many great co-op games out there, but we wanted to tell the experience of the two superheroes. You have to make big decisions, whether it’s design or technology, for a co-op game.
A darker adventure than ever
The direction given by Insomniac Games to its project has therefore been clear from the start. A fact that is reassuring, even if those who hoped to explore Manhattan in good company will certainly be frustrated. Although Spider Man 2 does not include co-op features, the PS5 exclusive will have a number of new features. The long gameplay sequence broadcast during the last PlayStation Showcase proves it. The Symbiote that affects Peter Parker’s costume will give the superhero new abilities in combat, but also a much more explosive temperament. Obviously, Miles Morales will have a job to contain him… The presence of Venom, but also of Kraven, one of the new villains that the two allies will have to face, will make the tone of this new adventure much darker. Spider Man 2 will be released this fall, without further details on its release date for the moment.
