This well-known character will obviously no longer be the same in FF7 Rebirth. Some fans may not like this change too much, especially considering who is affected.
If we look at the most anticipated games in 2024, we inevitably note FF7 Rebirth. It is the sequel to the 2020 remake, and it will continue the adventures of Cloud and his gang. On the other hand, it won’t be like the original, and we already understood that well before. Major events have already been changed, and that will continue with this sequel. Moreover, we have just been confirmed that a certain character was no longer going to be the same compared to the 1997 game. And that may not work for everyone.

A very different Sephiroth in FF7 Rebirth?
Even without having played Final Fantasy VII, most of you have probably already heard the name of Sephiroth. He is one of the most famous antagonists of the saga, and he has clearly left his mark on the genre. The fans were therefore eager to see him again, but what was their surprise to see him several times in Midgar. Square Enix changed the main plot of FF7, and Rebirth will follow a similar direction. Therefore, the studio will make some changes to the big bad, as we recently explained.
Game Informer had the opportunity to speak with the game’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, and he revealed some juicy information about Sephiroth. Obviously, he won’t have quite the same personality as in FF7 at the time. The focus will be on how he became an antagonist, but not only that. We obviously want to to “feel bad” for him. At the moment, we don’t know exactly what that means, but we should expect something different. So obviously, it will divide the players.
Throughout Rebirth, I believe players will learn to understand not only Cloud, but also Sephiroth through this game.
A story that will move away from the original
On paper, we already know part of Sephiroth’s past. Yes, if you played the spin-off Crisis Core, you know what made it sink. But Hamaguchi seems to want to explore our man’s story in more depth, which promises some nice surprises. We don’t have any more details to go through, but the community already has plenty to do with what has been said.
In fact, the scenario will probably take us all by surprise. Let’s not forget that Rebirth will also mark the return of characters who are normally absent from the original. We obviously think of Zack, but he won’t be the only one, and we’ve already been told that on multiple occasions. “There will be other characters from the FF7 spin-offs appearing in Rebirth », declared the director. It goes without saying that on release day, it will cause a lot of discussion. We can not wait to be there.
