This nail art is all the rage right now (we tell you why)

With spring coming, also comes the season of nail art that pimples our nails with colors and fun patterns. That’s good, we present you one of the flagship motifs of the moment whose success is due to that of a Netflix series.

We can no longer count the series (and in particular the Netflix series) that have influenced our beauty looks. From the cut of Jennifer Aniston – aka Rachel Green – in Friends which was among the most requested cuts in the 90s, with a real appetite for colorful and extravagant make-up (decorated with rhinestones, sequins and other even more surprising accessories) that we owe to the series Euphoria just a few months ago: the beauty looks of our favorite fictional characters continue to inspire us.
But now it’s another successful series that promises to win our beauty treatments, and more precisely our manicures. This Netflix series is the series The Lady’s Game which plunges us into the world of chess.

The main actress, Anya Taylor-Joy, was noticed in early March for the nail art nod to the series she wore during the Goldens Globes 2021 ceremony. But if the latter wore a nail art With pawn patterns thanks to false nails as you can see below, the manicure trend that is taking off has almost nothing to do with the manicure of the star actress.

Indeed, it is for the checkerboard pattern that the nail addicts as evidenced by the many checkerboard manicures that are currently being shared on social networks like Pinterest and Instagram under the hashtag #checkerboardnails (in reference to the chessboard).
With its small two-tone and well-ordered checks, the pattern of the chess board is indeed starting to invade our nails to give them a fun look that is just right for spring! In black and white to mimic the chessboard to perfection, combining one of the traditional shades of the chess board with a more original one to appropriate the pattern, mixing two colored (or pastel) shades to completely revisit its squares , or even playing with various duos of colors on each of the nails: the checkered pattern does not lack panache to pimp our nails with originality. And that’s without counting on the manicures which carry the motif of the chessboard in accent nails on a few nails only, or even French manicure to display this fun pattern only on the tips of the nails.

How to do a checkerboard manicure?

The answer is quite simple – freehand using a special brush nail art and your two colors of varnish – but the realization is much less! Indeed, it is certainly possible to draw the small squares of the chessboard by painting them on your nails with varnishes, but this step is far from obvious because it requires precision and skill. Not easy to draw perfect squares freehand! Especially since the pattern must be very regular to be elegant …
If you still try the experiment, know that to simplify your life (or to compensate for your lack of dexterity quite simply), you just have to draw a maxi checkerboard pattern which then only has four squares on the nails. This is an ultra practical tip to embrace the trend without risking smudges and misfires.
And if you want to make smaller squares on your nails, do not hesitate to superimpose the layers of varnish to gradually create the chessboard and obtain very clear lines as in the video below:

If not, there is also a way to make it a little easier to adopt checkerboard patterns of all sizes on your nails: coat your nails with the first color, let dry, then use pieces of tape to protect certain parts of the nail. and help you trace the other tiles with the second varnish much more easily. Only downside: you will have to take your troubles patiently because it is a process that can turn out to be a bit long and tedious since you have to wait for the varnish to dry well each time before removing the end of tape and continuing with another.

If you lack the time (or patience), we advise you instead to opt for false nails already decorated or varnish in self-adhesive patches that you just have to put on your nails to display an impeccable checkerboard manicure. You can find this kind of nail art patches on the etsy site.
