this new Android feature will save you from everyday hassle

Google Maps on Android will receive a function that has been present for a long time on the iOS version of the application: a small Weather option to better prepare journeys.

Google Maps

Google Maps is a mapping application that is constantly expanding with new features. The one that is emerging on the Android version of the application promises to be particularly practical. In fact, the navigation service will display a small tile allowing you to know the weather forecast for the geographical area that you are currently viewing on the map.

4 years after iOS, the Weather function on Google Maps Android

Note that this is a feature that has already existed on iOS for four years. The Google Maps teams now finally seem ready to offer this option on Android. It was time ! As explained Android Police, the information was shared by an Internet user in a Telegram channel dedicated to news from the Mountain View firm. We are even treated to two screenshots showing this Google Maps Weather function in action.

A tile thus appears in the carousel located just below the search bar, with other classic buttons such as “Restaurants” Or “Supermarkets“. By tapping on it, the user will see a small pop-up window in Google Maps. In the screenshot illustrating this, we see that the option indicates the weather in a given location, hour by hour (sky condition and temperature).

An underlying section even provides access to information on air quality – which was already found in a previous update of Google Maps.

No global deployment yet

Everything suggests that this Weather function in Google Maps for Android is still in the testing phase and must still be deployed to reach a wide audience. We hope that we will not have to wait too long. The arrival of such an option would be very relevant: good planning of a journey, whatever the means of transport, must take into account the weather.

Enough to avoid unpleasant surprises and have a good day.
