This new “botox effect” anti-ageing active ingredient is ultra-effective in smoothing out wrinkles

Very popular among stars and more and more democratized, botox injections make it possible toreduce facial wrinkles. Injected into the forehead or crow’s feet, botulinum toxin blocks muscle contraction and prevents wrinkles from deepening. But this type of intervention is not within the reach of all budgets, which is why cosmetic brands are constantly developing new “botox-like” active ingredients that mimic the action of botox on the skin. Argireline as effective as botox?

Argireline, also known as “relaxation peptide”, is a synthetic hexapeptide derived from the SNARE protein. It acts in inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction. By temporarily blocking these muscle contractions, argireline works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, especially those caused by repetitive facial movements.

This active ingredient also acts on collagen synthesis, to improve the elasticity and firmness of the skin. It is often found under the name “Acetyl hexapeptide-8” in the ingredient lists of cosmetic products. In an interview with the American magazine WellAndGoodexpert Jodi LoGerfo explains that argireline is particularly effective for diminish the appearance of wrinkles”on the forehead and around the eyes. This anti-aging active ingredient would therefore be a gentler and non-invasive alternative to botox, but nevertheless much less effective: “The effects of argireline are temporary and much less intense than those of botox”explains Dr. Rebecca Marcus to WellAndGood magazine.
