this new document to keep which can save you from a (big) fine

With the end of the green insurance card, a memo will be sent to policyholders by their insurer. What you need to know about this precious document.

You are perhaps part of the 37% of French people who are still unaware that the car insurance certificate will soon be completely dematerialized. From April 1st, you will no longer need to drive with your green butterfly and it will no longer be necessary to affix the insurance sticker to the windshield of your car.

In the event of an inspection by the police, they will consult the insured vehicle file (FVA) directly. This device contains in memory all the vehicles insured under motor third party liability. Indeed, taking out minimum car insurance remains an obligation.

A mmo with lots of information…

To replace the green card, motorists will receive a memo from their insurer. The Mmo is nothing more and nothing less than an insurance certificate. It provides proof of your insurance while waiting for the Insured Vehicle File (FVA) to be updated. However, the Mmo will also be useful if you need to fill out a report. In fact, it includes the essential information from your insurance contract. Remember to save your Memo on your phone or print it to keep it with you, explains Direct Assurance.

This year, insurers will send all their policyholders an insured vehicle memo. Before receiving this document, remember to keep the last green card that was sent to you because it remains valid until its expiry date. Then this memo will only be sent to you in the event of a change of insurer or vehicle.

…And which can save you from a fine

Note that this memo also has another use with the end of the green card. When you have been insured for less than 72 hours, your vehicle may not yet be included in the insured vehicle file. You can then, in the event of an inspection, present the insured vehicle memo to the police, explains the service-public site.

You can already check whether your car is listed in the FVA. If this is not the case and you do not have an MMO, you risk a big fine: up to 3750 euros and potentially a withdrawal of your license.
