In Paris, there are extremely many modes of transport for getting around the capital: on foot, with your own scooter or bicycle, by public transport, by scooter or electric scooter, by car or electric car, via a taxi or VTC or by using a rental service (scooter, bicycle, scooter, car).

To all these solutions is added a new alternative located halfway between the taxi and the bicycle: here are the electric bicycle taxis launched by the company Turtle, which officially land in Paris after five months of experimentation, we learn in a press release sent to the editorial staff.

About fifteen drivers, to start

This new urban transport service is aimed at both Parisians and tourists. The idea: to offer a more ecological alternative to the car, but also more practical, faster and less expensive, both on medium journeys and on short routes.

These five months of experimentation allowed him to make 3,100 trips, but also to test hypotheses, collect feedback from the first customers, improve the experience and develop new processes, the brand replied to us by email. A total of five electric tricycles were put into service during this period.

This official launch marks a new turning point: fifteen bikes are now available, followed by five new models by next May, to aim for a hundred tricycles by the 2024 Olympic Games, hopes the young shoot founded by Robin Bourraindeloup and Aymard De Ravignan.

Note that all Turtle drivers are employees and trained by the company, which is supposed to provide some job security. At the time of writing these lines, eighteen drivers are counted in its ranks, joined in the near future by new recruits. A recruiting campaign is taking place.

Attractive prices

Regarding pricing, Turtle uses the same operation as VTCs: for each journey made, a base price, a price per minute and a price per kilometer are established. “On average, according to our various price studies, we offer trips 25 to 50% cheaper than VTC “, we are assured.

Frandroidsimulated a theoretical journey with Turtle on one side and Uber on the other, between Strasbourg Saint-Denis and Bastille (late morning): the electric tricycle service displayed a price of 6 euros, against 13 euros with an UberX. In this single example, the offer is therefore advantageous.

Schedule a race

The Turtle app is relatively intuitive and easy to understand. As a bonus, the interface tells you the number of passengers and luggage accepted in the vehicle. It is also possible to schedule a race according to a well-defined schedule and day. Convenient if you want to anticipate your trips.

For the moment, Turtle only operates in intramural Paris and does not apply, according to it, any price increase. Inevitably, their vehicles use the many Parisian cycle paths, the number of kilometers of which will increase sharply between now and the Olympics – 30 additional kilometers of tracks, according to the town hall. A good way to avoid traffic jams.
