A new step for consumer protection. From Saturday, new provisions specified in a decree dated March 25, 2022, will come into force. From this date, merchants will have to respect 15and no longer 6, obligations for the distance selling. Here is the main information that you will now need to be able to find on distance selling sites, as explained the public-service site:

  • the identification of the seller: name or company name, address of the establishment, telephone number, e-mail address, address and identity of the professional on whose behalf he is acting;
  • the means who guarantee the consumer to be able to keep written changes with the professional (with the date and time of these changes);
  • the payment termsof delivery and planned execution;
  • the methods of processing complaints
  • the guarantee legal of compliancethat of hidden defects and any other applicable legal warranties;
  • the commercial guarantee and after-sales service;
  • the termination conditions;
  • the coordinates of the mediators to which the consumer can turn;
  • the minimum duration of the consumer’s contractual obligations;
  • the eventual bail and other financial guarantees owed by the consumer;
  • the past prices in discount ads
  • the withdrawal formwhich must notably mention the electronic address of the supplier (which was not obligatory until now).

As a reminder, the withdrawal period is of 14 days since 2014 and not more than 7 for distance selling.

In February, the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention (DGCCRF) once again warned consumers by inviting them to check some information before making purchases. To protect herself from unpleasant surprises, she reminded us in particular of the importance of checking the amount of postage and customs charges; but also to scrutinize the legal notices, the identity of the seller and the url of the site.
