This new malware steals your bank details from your phone

A brand new malware rages on Android and wants (as so often) your bank data.

This new virus, baptized Octo, hides in various seemingly innocuous applications.

Octo: beware of this new virus on Android

For a few years now, cybersecurity researchers have regularly brought to light viruses and other malicious programs that wish to steal users’ private and/or banking information. The Threat Fabric group recently unveiled a new malware on Android, called Octo, and based on ExoCompact.

This malware is spreading on our Android smartphones by being embedded in various applications, some of which are available directly via the Play Store. This is the case of Pocket Screencaster or Fast Cleaner 2021. Note that Octo is also hidden in certain applications available online, in the form of an APK file.

Concretely, Octo takes care to quickly (and discreetly) steal his victim’s data. The virus is responsible for intercepting text messages or recording entries made on the screen in order to recover identifiers and passwords as quickly as possible. It targets popular crypto-currency platforms (Coinbase, Crypto.com, etc.), but also certain banks such as Crédit Mutuel de Bretagne, CIC, La Poste, Fortuneo and BNP, not forgetting PayPal. Distrust, distrust, therefore.
