Abandoning strategy games, MMORPGs and other beat’em alls for a while, this new video game adaptation of Lord of the Rings instead draws its inspiration from Animal Crossing or even Stardew Valley. Developed by Wētā Workshop and published by Private Division, Tales of the Shire offers us, as its name suggests, the opportunity to live the life of a quiet Hobbit. We will thus be able to create our own Half-Man to indulge in the simple pleasures of the Shire.
More specifically, this new Lord of the Rings game places its story in Lézeau. The opportunity to tread with our hairy feet the superb meadows of this quiet little village. We can arrange our comfortable Hobbit hole, do some gardening or even chat with our dear neighbors over a second breakfast. So it won’t be about epic battles and heroic tales here, but rather the latest gossip in the Shire. An original change of setting to say the least when it comes to a video game adaptation of Lord of the Rings. Another way to forget the terrible game centered on Gollum.
The artistic direction adopted by Wētā Workshop also reflects the peaceful side of the Shire.
