The manufacturer presents on the occasion of the MWC 2023 a particularly original concept of smart phonewith a roll-up screen.

While smartphones with folding screens are slowly but surely beginning to find a place on the market, Motorola is already inviting us to glimpse the future of the sector with the Motorola Rizr.

From 5 to 6.5 inches in three seconds thanks to a rollable panel

The brand has thus taken advantage of the Mobile World Congress 2023, which is currently being held in Barcelona, to present this prototype of a smartphone with a roll-up screen.

The device initially offers a 5-inch OLED screen in a fairly new 15:9 format. It is by pressing the “Power” button of the smartphone twice that the screen unfolds towards the top of the device to finally give way to a smartphone with a size of 6.5 inches in 22: 9 format more usual. The operation is not immediate and takes about three seconds to complete.

The panel is of a rather exceptional finesse and is housed on the back of the phone when the user wishes to fold the screen after use. It is thus used as a secondary screen, to display information or notifications.

A fully functional prototype, but we will have to wait a little longer before hoping for a commercialization

The lucky ones who were able to take control of the phone during the presentations organized by Motorola, explain that the brand has worked on its interface so that it adapts in real time to the different positions of the screen.

Thus, the manufacturer explains that when the user switches to landscape mode in an application like YouTube, the screen will unfold automatically, without the need to press a button.

Motorola did not give additional information on this device, but we can distinguish two cameras and a flash on the back of the Rizr.

Of course, it is not planned for the moment that Motorola markets the Rizr in the state. The brand does not give any details on a planned release window, and even less on the target price range. There is no doubt that like any innovation, the first rollable smartphone will have to be earned, with a fairly high price, but for the moment, we will have to content ourselves with these few images which lift the veil on what awaits the future of the smartphone market.
