Forget Call of Duty, here is the new series that will give you adrenaline

With Echo 3, Apple has bet on strong values. The series is indeed the adaptation of an award-winning Israeli programme, entitled When Heroes Fly, itself adapted from the eponymous work by Amir Gutfreund. In writing we find a certain Mark Boal, whose work on Minesweepers and Zero Dark Thirty alongside Kathryn Bigelow has been praised on many occasions.

Three years of work will have been necessary for Echo 3 to see the light of day – two years of writing and one year to find the filming locations. On the casting side, he surrounds himself with well-known faces from the big and small screen, starting with Luke Evans. The actor – who has touched all genres – is impeccable in the role of Bambi, a Navy Seal who often finds himself torn between his mission and his family. Because in his team is also his brother-in-law played by Michel Huisman (GOT), married to his sister therefore, camped by Jessica Collins.

The actors have been preparing for a long time in order to best interpret these American soldiers, as Evans told us: “We arrived more than three weeks before filming to train with former Marines. Every day, for hours. They taught us to handle weapons and to fight like true veterans. We also learned all kinds of military tactics to best simulate the operation. We also listened to the stories of real navy seals in order to understand what they may have endured.”

If the beginning of the series takes place in Afghanistan – a place that Mark Boal knows well since he followed the American army there when he was a journalist – the plot quickly switches to play in South America. Again, the geopolitics of the region is rather familiar to him since it is there that his previous film, Triple Frontier, took place.

But filming in Colombia has not been easy for the teams, as Huisman explained to us: “Even though it’s a fabulous country, the filming locations were sometimes extremely difficult to access. You had to cross the jungle for hours to get to the set.“. If safety was required, no accident has been reported.

This choice allowed Boal and his team to offer an authentic series on paper that AppleTv+ subscribers can discover today. The first three episodes of Echo 3 are already available, the next ones will be posted on a weekly basis.
