this nugget from Square Enix finally confirmed

During the Microsoft conference currently taking place at the Tokyo Game Show, we discovered the next gems coming to Xbox Series/One. It promises.

Japan’s Tokyo Game Show has just started and, as you might expect, it’s a parade of conferences. Publishers take this opportunity to present their future projects. In particular, Microsoft, through its event, wishes to highlight what awaits its community on Xbox Series and One. This is an excellent opportunity to discover new Japanese gems.

A cult Square Enix game on the way to Xbox Series

Thus, the major announcement was the arrival, scheduled for early 2024, of Octopath Traveler 2, the RPG gem from Square Enix. As a reminder, the game is already available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Windows. So only the Xbox Series/Xbox One remained to complete its multiplatform presence. Great news for JRPG fans and others.

For those who don’t know, Octopath Traveler 2 is a real gem. The RPG takes place in the world of Solistia, a continent split in two by the sea. The player can play as one of eight protagonists, each with their own distinct story and objectives. Throughout the adventure, the destinies of the characters intersect and intertwine. That’s a big part of the charm of the script.

This sequel retains gameplay elements from the first game, including its turn-based combat system and HD-2D graphics style. While remaining true to its roots, the game nevertheless introduces new features, such as the ability to travel by boat or recruit companions, not to mention an even larger world to explore. On Gameblog, we gave it a score of 7/10. We particularly highlighted its better thought out side and its narrative richness, despite a sometimes repetitive aspect. In any case, it would be a shame to deprive yourself of it if you like the world of Japanese RPGs even a little.
