A new series has just been released on Netflix, and it was highly anticipated. Unfortunately, she is already causing controversy, and it is for reasons that seem serious.
In 2021, a series from South Korea set Netflix alight. It’s called Squid Game, and it has left its mark on the SVOD platform in a very unique way. The principle is simple, people must participate in deadly games to pocket a jackpot and recover their debt. Season 1 was a hit, and the sequel is eagerly awaited. And in a way, it has just made its entry into the catalog of the American giant. But not as you might think, and what’s more, she is currently causing controversy.
A Dangerous Game on Netflix, Literally
For those latecomers, Squid Game was recently exported to reality TV format. All the codes of the series are used, including the morbid games, except that this time, we don’t really die. Squid Game: The Challenge therefore offers participants the opportunity to take part in these terrible challenges, with the jackpot at stake: a cash prize of $4.56 million. Do you want to see how they do? Well, good news, it’s been available on Netflix since November 22, and it’s divided into three parts. The second will be released on the 29th, and the third on December 6, 2023.
In this televised competition, 456 real players compete in hopes of winning $4.56 million, a potentially life-changing prize. Through challenges inspired by the original series (and a few surprises), each participant’s strategies, alliances and character will be put to the test as competitors are eliminated.
However, there seems to have been a big problem during filming. Some players expressed dissatisfaction with the filming conditions. They notably suffered from hypothermia and nerve damage during the game called “Red Light, Green Light” or “1,2,3 Soleil”. It’s not yet confirmed, and you have to take it with a grain of salt, but if it turns out, it’s serious. Moreover, the participants concerned would have taken the decision to sue Netflix for the damage caused on Squid Game: The Challenge. We’re still waiting to find out more, but things are looking scorched for the platform.
Where is season 2?
For the moment, we have no news about season 2. From what we understand, it would have started filming this year. Fans are hoping to see it arrive in 2024, and it’s pretty likely, even if it’s just speculation. In any case, its first trailer is expected around the corner, and that’s understandable. Season 1 was literally the talk of the world. It propelled South Korea to the forefront of the Netflix scene. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t been the case before, but Squid Game is a real must-have like we’ve rarely seen on the platform.
