There are several types of electric mountain bikes on the market: hardtails for neophytes looking to get a foothold in this discipline, characterized by a single suspension placed at the front; the more successful all-suspended ones intended for a more informed public, which are also and above all generally more expensive.

The manufacturer Steven Bikes recently updated its catalog with two VTTAE belonging to this second category, we learn eBike News. So here are the E-Maverick AM 9.4.3 and E-Maverick AM 7.4.3, which can be considered as light, even very light electric mountain bikes.

Under 20 kg

The first indeed claims a point of 16.5 kg, against 17.5 kg for the second. The presence of a carbon frame obviously plays a central role. As a reminder, carbon is a material known for its rigidity and lightness. On the other hand, it costs much more than aluminum. Hence the often high prices crossed on carbon VAEs.

Weighing 2.6 kg, the frame is associated with a central TQ HPR 50 engine with a torque of 50 Nm. Again, this choice is clearly oriented by this idea of designing the lightest bike possible. As a reminder, this engine is a featherweight with its 1.85 kg. It therefore clearly participates in pulling the weight of the machine down.

Same philosophy for the battery: the pair incorporates an accumulator whose energy capacity is all in all modest: 360 Wh. The battery is an element capable of considerably weighing down an electric bicycle: it is therefore necessary to select the right model to meet the established specifications.

A high-flying technical sheet

The E-Maverick AM 9.4.3 version is the higher end of the two. It features a premium transmission, a 12-speed SRAM X0 Eagle, combined with 29-inch Schwalbe Wicked Will Evolution tires, Shimano XTR hydraulic disc brakes and double suspension.

Up front, you have to rely on a 140mm-travel RockShox Pike Ultimate suspension fork, versus a similar-travel RockShox Deluxe Ultimate RCT rear shock. All for the sum of 9999 euros.

A more affordable version almost just as light

More affordable (6999 euros), the E-Maverick AM 7.4.3 version opts for a more modest, but still proven transmission: a 12-speed Shimano Deore XT Shadow+, coupled with Shimano BR-M6120 hydraulic disc brakes, a RockShox Pike Select+ suspension fork (140 mm) and a RockShox Deluxe Select+ rear shock (140 mm).

Again, Steven Bikes manages to make a splash with a weight of 17.5 kg. On the French website, the page of each product does not indicate the official price, which is on request. To see if the price is likely to change compared to the elements shared by eBikes News.
