Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor is set to arrive this year and power many reasonably priced smartphones. It promises obviously superior performance to the previous generation, but still at an affordable cost.
The Snapdragon 4 mobile chipset update signals the arrival of entry-level smartphones into a new generation. This platform was designed with the priorities of guaranteeing superior autonomy and faster calculation speed. It will of course be compatible with the 5G network and will be able to improve image capture thanks to better use of AI.
Improved performance
The Snapdragon 4 incorporates Qualcomm Kryo’s in-house CPU, reworked for this new version of the chip. The processor speed is pushed up to the frequency of 2.2 GHz, which represents a slight increase compared to the previous generation which ran at 2 GHz. The Gen 2 will also incorporate fast charging technology, which will allow users to regain 50% battery in 15 minutes from an AC outlet. Nevertheless, the American company Qualcomm did not stop at a simple performance update.
Support for modern FHD+ displays is assured with a refresh rate of up to 120 frames per second. That’s more than adequate for an entry-level processor. This new Snapdragon will also improve the use of the camera. Optimization of electronic stabilization, accelerated focusing and reduction of the blur effect will be on the menu.
Use of AI and advanced connectivity
Qualcomm could not overlook AI when developing its new chip. The Gen 2 of its processor will integrate functionalities thanks to this technology mainly in the camera of the smartphone. The operation of the latter will be notably optimized by AI to guarantee satisfactory photos, whatever the conditions. The processor will even be capable of Multi-Camera Temporal Filtering (MCTF), which drastically reduces visual noise when taking video with your phone.
When it comes to connectivity, Qualcomm is keeping up with the times with its proprietary X61 5GB Modern-RF system. The company promises increased support for the 5G network and frequencies for a more pleasant user experience than the previous generation.
Although the release date of this new chip has not yet been announced, brands such as vivo or Redmi have already committed and wish to integrate this chipset into their ranges. The promise of combining more than adequate performance while maintaining a low manufacturing cost is an argument to which manufacturers and consumers cannot remain insensitive.
