fun, news, tips… what else?

Since January 1, 2023, each clothing label has displayed a QR code. What is it used for ? It can be of great use to you.

You may have noticed it while doing the sales or just shopping, but the Clothing tags now display a QR code. What is a QR code? It is a small square that links to a web page by scanning it with the phone’s camera tool. Some clothing brands, those with a turnover of at least 50 million euros, are required to put this QR code on the labels of their products since January 1, 2023. So if you go shopping at Zara or Mango, you should see it.

This QR code is intended to allow the consumer find out about the traceability of what they buy. Thus, by scanning the QR code, he has access to various information: where does the fabric that was used to manufacture the garment come from, where was it manufactured, what is the share of recycled material in the manufacture clothing or footwear. “The customer will simply be much more informed. Informed about the different factories involved in the manufacture of the product, starting from the raw material to our warehouses, with all the kilometers travelled”, explains Jean Loez, production and sourcing director of the ready-to-wear brand Maje at TF1.

A measure for the environment

By being more transparent, consumers are aware of what they are buying and therefore, the impact of the garment or shoe on the planet. Good news for people who are careful about their purchases. “In France, we are still at 250,000 tonnes of textile waste each year, it’s huge. This is what we are trying to improve”explains Pierre Talamon, president of the National Federation of Clothing (FNH) to France Info. The purpose of this measure is to rationalize consumption so that it is more qualitative than quantitative.
