In & Motion has just introduced its brand new airbag for cyclists which will change the game in terms of safety. In addition to deploying automatically in the event of a fall, it covers the entire upper part of the body, and not just the head, for optimal protection. The icing on the cake: the airbag is able to call for help itself in the event of a fall.
For a few years now, cyclists have been able to replace the traditional helmet with an airbag contained in a backpack. Although very effective, the latter is still far from being adopted by the majority, especially since it suffers from the same defect as its “analog” counterpart: it only protects the head of its wearer. A concern that the French start-up In & Motion intends to solve with its new product, the Stan.
The Stan works in the same way as its congeners: using sensors, the airbag analyzes the position of the cyclist 1000 times per second in order to detect signs of a fall. If necessary, it is triggered, extracted from the backpack and placed around its wearer. However, unlike the competition, the Stan deploys in a tenth of a second over the entire upper part of the body from the head to the bottom of the torso.

In addition to protecting much better than a helmet or a classic airbag, the Stan is also able to call for help himself after having deployed, in case his protector is still unconscious or indisposed after his fall. Finally, the backpack in which the latter is located is also designed to accommodate other devices, such as a laptop or any other work equipment.

With all this paraphernalia, In & Motion hopes to reduce the risk of head trauma by 80% compared to a usual bicycle helmet. Especially since the manufacturer is not at his first attempt. The firm has indeed other airbags in the past, for various disciplines such as skiing or horse riding.
