In her series of photographs "African American Princess", artist LaChanda Gatson imagines what princesses of the Disney universe would look like if they were African-American. The result is simply magical!

When she was a child, LaChanda Gatson failed to identify with most of the fairy-tale princesses found in Disney movies. To rewrite history, she joined forces with CreativeSoul Photography in order to to put young black girls at the center of the tales of her childhood. The result is simply stunning. The photoshoot transcribes real magic.

For LaChanda Gatson, this photo shoot is a "passion project" special. This is "a collection [s] of classic princesses [s] redesigned with a touch of black girl magic"she said to Popsugar. The series is inspired by the most famous fairy tales such as Snow White, Sleeping Beauty or The Snow Queen.

To achieve this magnificent photoshoot, the artist called on costume designers from around the world to create outfits worthy of real princesses. These reinterpreted heroines are the ones she would have liked to see when she was little and watched movies Disney. "When I was growing up, I saw very little or no representation of African-Americans on television, in the movies or in books. None of my favorite fairy tales had characters who looked like me. I would always reinvent what it would look more relevant. As an adult, I have been hired on many sets in Hollywood, both for movies and editorial for children, and unsurprisingly it's the same thing. There is not a lot of fantasy in there. That's when I created the change [that] I want to see. I want to continue creating and developing spaces for inclusion. ", she assured.

Following this breathtaking beauty photoshoot, the young woman has other projects in mind. She is notably working on a pop-up exhibition which will be a "royal urban fantasy exhibition" featuring "spectacular fanciful black drawings, majestic swag, afro art and a crowd of famous royal figures".

Thanks to his art, LaChanda Gatson hopes to help young African Americans see each other "in a brighter light with endless possibilities"." They need to know that they are beautiful, talented, gifted, hold ancestral, powerful gifts and deserve to be happy forever.", she concluded.
