fun, news, tips … what else?

The petition “No consent, no sex”, launched by the association Sexe & Consentement, wants messages to be written on the packaging of condoms.

Using a condom is a good habit. What if, in addition to protecting against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), it also reminds us of the importance of consent? This is what theSex & Consent association. The latter launched a petition on Change.org intended for the Government and in particular the Ministry of Health and Equality between Women and Men.

The goal is simple: “Make mandatory the presence of warnings and information on the need for free consent in all advertising, on packaging and in notices relating to products and services related to sexual and reproductive health, pleasure and dating ( sale of condoms, dental dams and contraceptive products, sale of sex toys, dating, erotic and pornographic sites, etc.) “. The association would like the sentence on these products to remind “the need for free, informed and enthusiastic consent as a prerequisite for any act of a sexual nature.”

Consent, a notion we still need to talk about

So far, 16,710 people have signed the petition. A figure that reveals the public’s interest in the issue of consent. This notion, fundamental and about which we must continue to talk, is still little known to some people … In March 2020, the figures unveiled by the collective All of us had challenged Internet users. In the survey of 100,000 people, nine in ten women said they had experienced pressure to have sex. In 88% of cases, it even happened several times.

More recent figures are more encouraging. a survey 2021 by 20 Minutes and Opinion Way indicates that 91% of young people aged 18 to 25 believe they have a good notion of consent. However, this essential notion is not sufficient to prevent all sexual violence either. Indeed, a person may think he is consenting, but in reality be under control, fragile on the psychological level, or even, forced to say yes because of invisible pressures (economic, family…). Still, the current discussions around consent are useful, in order to collectively reduce sexual violence.
