If Call of Duty’s modern battles annoy you, let us tell you about a survival horror game set in World War I. It’s coming to PC, PS5 and Switch.

If you think that games about the First World War only rhyme with Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, then you haven’t heard of Conscript. This survival and horror game, the demo of which is currently available on Steam, has just found its release date: it will be July 23 on PC, PS4, PS5, One, Xbox Series and Switch. A genre that does not tend to use the Great War as a setting, and which also does it with a fairly original artistic and technical direction. As you can see in these images, you would think that Conscript dates from the PS1 or Game Boy Advance era… A choice that seems to add a lot to the atmosphere of the project.

Plunge into horror

But beyond the atmosphere, what’s going on in Conscript? As we can learn on the title’s Steam page, you play as a young French soldier looking for his missing brother, all in the middle of the Battle of Verdun… From there, you can imagine that your objective will be to find your brother. To do this, you will have to explore labyrinthine trenches which encourage you to manage your inventory well and plan your route, can we read on the Valve platform. Of course, there will be enemies – German soldiers – as well as puzzles, in the greatest tradition of the genre.

A game that makes you want

In short, with its setting and its very particular atmosphere, Conscript seems to have all the arguments to be a survival game | horror more than successful! It has also benefited from a relatively long development, with a crowdfunding campaign launched, basically, in June 2020 (nearly 40,000 Australian dollars raised – or around 25,000 euros). We take this opportunity to tell you that the title focuses on a certain replayability thanks to different difficulty settings, costumes – as well as weapons – to unlock and several endings. Everything will be displayed at the price of €19.99 for the standard version.
