The manipulation of vehicle data is still a common problem in Germany – especially in the used car trade. the ADAC guessed in one examination in November of last year that around two million cars are sold in Germany every year on the secondary market with forged data. The automobile club also found that in most cases of so-called tachometer manipulation, the data is not modified just before the sale, but during the entire period of use. The aim of the fraudsters is to smuggle the fake numbers into the manufacturer’s workshops in order to “verify” them.
The EU reacted back in 2017 and issued a regulation that stipulates that the mileage in the car must be “systematically protected”. Nevertheless, newer models are still susceptible to manipulation. Random tests by the automobile club would have shown this.
A conceivable solution in the fight against speedometer fraud is blockchain technology, a spokesman for ADAC told BTC-ECHO.
Alfa Romeo uses NFT in the new “Tonale”
