Specifically, it’s a beauty hack that’s been buzzing on TikTok. The goal: make up using colored pencils. Which is not without risk, according to the point of view of experts who expressed themselves in the press. From the American fashion magazine Teen Vogue, a dermatologist warned on February 14th. The specialist explained that the use of colored pencils for applying make-up could cause “allergic reactions”, “skin irritation”as well as “eye infections [qui pourraient être à l’origine de] greater damage”.

In detail, the dermatologist informed our colleagues that colored pencils – unlike products dedicated to make-up – were neither regulated nor even designed to be used in this way. Also, “we don’t know what pigments are used or other ingredients” that are in the composition of colored pencils, she added. Caution is therefore called for. Especially since the videos featuring people who put on makeup using colored pencils have been viewed by a large number of Internet users, including teenagers and young adults.
