This ultra-fast electric car dethrones Tesla and Porsche on the Nürburgring

Porsche and Tesla like to show their muscles and compete indirectly, by multiplying the records with their sports electric cars. Tesla had regained the lead in this competition with its Model S Plaid and a record time of 7 min 25 s on the Nürburgring circuit, 20.8 km long, last June. The sedan of the Stuttgart manufacturer, the Taycan Turbo S, had meanwhile completed the circuit lap in 7 min 33 s in August 2022. But that was without counting on a newcomer in this little time war between Porsche and Tesla . Indeed, the Croatian brand Rimac has invited itself into this showdown, and with brio, since its sports model Nevera has panicked the counters, posting a time of 7 min 5 s!

For information, if this time constitutes the record for a production electric car, it is not the absolute record for an electric car. The Chinese supercar NIO EP9, produced in only 16 copies, achieved a time of 6 min 45 s in May 2017. In 2019, the Volkswagen ID.R (unique prototype of 680 hp for only 1100 kg) broke the record in 6 min 05 sec. And let’s also remember that the Tesla Model S Plaid and Porsche Taycan are above all sedans.

The Rimac Nevera has already made history by becoming the fastest production electric vehicle in the world with a maximum speed of 412 km/h, without the slightest modification or other adjustments than those present on the car when it left factory. It has four electric motors, one per wheel, developing a combined power of 1914 hp and 2360 Nm of torque. A single-stage gearbox connects the front and rear wheels. The motors are powered by a 730-volt lithium-manganese-nickel battery with a capacity of 120 kWh, giving it a range of 550 km WLTP. The Rimac Nevera tolerates a load capacity of 300 kW and goes from 0 to 80% in less than 30 min. The 0 to 100 km / h is shot in 1.9 s.

The Rimac Nevera is produced in 150 copies, sold for the trifle of 2 million euros each.
