Construction

Using gallium nitride (GaN) – which offers better power efficiency compared to silicon – this four-port USB-C charger can deliver a total of 165W in several configurations: 100W, 100W/60W, 60W/ 60W/45W or 100W/30W/30W, 60W/45W/30W/30W.

I have tested all the output capabilities of this charger and it lives up to the promises made by Satechi.

Built in a hard plastic shell and featuring a blue indicator light on the front, this mains-powered charger is perfect for the workloads you might face in 2022. There’s even a small plastic holder for keep the charger upright on your desk.

Use and power

The 100W power is perfect for laptops, even modern ones like Apple’s MacBook M1 and M2. The four ports reduce clutter on the desk by allowing you to swap different chargers lying around for a single device.

Good news too, unlike older silicon-based USB-C chargers, the Satechi charger doesn’t get hot, even when charging lots of devices at the same time.

The only thing I don’t like about this charger is the blue LED on the front. While it’s nice to be able to tell if a charger is plugged in and on, I wish the LED was more subtle or there was a way to turn it off completely, as that means it’s not not very suitable for use on a bedside table.
