“This villain in Avatar is a great accomplishment”: Stephen Lang happy to return to The Way of the Water

Stephen Lang, the villain of the first Avatar, will be back in the second episode, The Way of the Water, expected for December 14. AlloCiné was able to exchange a few words with the actor during the D23!

In Avatar, released in 2009, the big bad Miles Quaritch, camped by Stephen Lang, passed the weapon on the left, pierced by the arrows of Neytiri.

Revealed last May, the first trailer for the second film, The Way of the Water, unveiled the return of this emblematic bad guy… in the skin of a Na’vi!

The one who had a fierce hatred towards this people is now part of theirs. How will history explain this? What will Quaritch’s goal be in this second feature film? Will he always be an enemy of our heroes or now an ally?

“Stephen Lang was so excellent in the first film, it’s a privilege to see him back. I’m not going to say how we plan to bring him back, but after all, it’s science fiction. His character will evolve unexpectedly during this new trilogy”said James Cameron in 2013.

Last July, Stephen Lang explained that “Quaritch was taller, bluer, and still pissed off. But he’ll show more humility. When you take two arrows from a Na’vi to the chest, it has some effect on you”he underlined with a certain malice at the microphone ofEmpire.

Miles Quaritch is one of my greatest accomplishments.

During D23, a Disney event that took place from September 9 to 11, AlloCiné was able to speak briefly with the 70-year-old actor, who was delighted to return to the Avatar franchise.

“Like the public, I couldn’t wait any longer! I even wondered if I would see the sequels of the saga in my lifetime”jokes Stephen Lang. “The character of Miles Quaritch is one of my greatest accomplishments as an actor”he continues.

The world of Avatar is part of my DNA.

“It’s such a great undertaking that there will always be something to be creative about, and I’m really happy to still be a part of that creative process. Therefore, in a certain way, I feel like the world of Avatar is part of my DNA”concludes the actor with a smile.

While waiting to discover Avatar: The Way of the Water on December 14, you will be able to (re) see the first part which comes out in cinemas on September 21.
