The MCU could soon integrate this star of The Walking Dead in the role of a big Marvel villain, enough to arouse everyone’s excitement, especially since he is a very popular actor.
Invincible creator Robert Kirkman recently hinted that Steven Yeun would play the character Sentry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Thunderbolts.” This information comes from a discussion between Kirkman and Yeun about Sentry’s costume fitting, during which Yeun joked that he only plays superheroes dressed in yellow and blue, recalling thus his previous role in Invincible.
A Walking Dead star at Marvel
Thunderbolts is one of the next big films in the MCU and will mark the appearance of the morally ambiguous team on the big screen. The film is often compared to Marvel’s “Suicide Squad,” with characters such as Yelena Belova as the new Black Widow and Bucky Barnes.
Steven Yeun, who joined the cast in February 2023, is expected to play the role of Robert Reynolds aka Sentry. A powerful Marvel character who would be the main antagonist of the film. During an appearance on David Finch’s YouTube show, Kirkman mentioned that Yeun told him about his Sentry costume fitting.
Yeun is best known for his role as Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead, another major Kirkman series. His performance in this cult series earned him great popularity. Later we could find him in many films including Nope.
Half zombie hunter, half superhero
Outside of The Walking Dead, Yeun already has experience in the superhero genre, lending his voice to the character Mark Grayson in the animated adaptation of Invincible on Amazon Prime. So far, neither Yeun nor Marvel Studios have officially commented on these statements on Sentry. Time will tell how the MCU will approach Sentry’s character, but his introduction in Thunderbolts promises to be very interesting.
