Twilight director Catheine Hardwicke has revealed which actors she would like to see play Bella and Edward if a reboot was made.
10 years ago, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson took out their vampire teeth after five Twilight films. The two young actors played the human Bella and the vampire Edward in the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s young adult novels.
Made up of five feature films, the saga grossed more than $3.3 billion at the international box office.
Interviewed during the podcast Watch-a-long by Josh Horowitzdirector Catherine Hardwicke, to whom we owe Twilight Chapter 1: Fascination, specified which young actors she would see taking over the roles of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen if a reboot of the franchise took place today.
Who to play Bella and Edward today?
According to her, rising Hollywood star Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream, Beetlejuice 2) and Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Priscillia) “would be perfect” to play the heroes. The American director adds: “Jacob Elordi is incredible. He would probably be Edward today.”.

The latter then declares having recently met the actor Lewis Tan (seen in Mortal Kombat and soon in the casting of Deadpool 3), who had auditioned for the role of Jacob, played by Taylor Lautner in the saga. “It would have changed his life – like anyone’s – if he had gotten this role“, she emphasizes.
Summit not convinced by Robert Pattinson
Hardwicke then returned to the casting of Robert Pattinson and explained that the Summit Entertainment studio was not convinced by the British comedian. “When he came to my house he had a black streak in his hair and he wasn’t very well because he was often hanging out in pubs.“
However, the filmmaker was quickly charmed and was convinced that the young actor would make a perfect vampire. “I sent the videos to Summit and Robert went to meet them. They called me back and said, “Can you make it look like something?”
I said, “Yes, I believe so. Have you seen his jawline? We’re going to change his haircut, he’s going to start working out and you’ll see, he’ll look amazing. They had a hard time believing me at first“, she finally declares before confessing that the other contenders for the role were Ben Barnes, Shiloh Fernandez and Jackson Rathbone, who will ultimately play Jasper, Edward’s brother, on screen.
