Ørsted has just announced the launch of an exceptionally large-scale wind project off the British coast.

While the construction of offshore wind farms is just beginning to become more widespread here, on the other side of the Channel, our British neighbors have for several years been entitled to ever more impressive installations. The Danish renewable energy giant Ørsted has announced that it will develop a new park at its Hornsea site, where the Hornsea 1 and 2 parks already exist. And this Hornsea 3 park will further exceed previous achievements.

3.3 million households served

This is an exceptional project which will see the light of day 160 kilometers from the coast of Yorkshire, in the east of England. “ Ørsted has made the final investment decision for the world’s largest offshore wind farm, Hornsea 3, which will have a capacity of 2.9 GW and is expected to be completed towards the end of 2027 » communicated the group.

With such power, this park alone will have the potential to provide electricity for 3.3 million homes in the United Kingdom. Ørsted also indicates that this maritime wind farm will allow the creation of several thousand jobs.

A set representing a power of 5 GW

The company is particularly present in the United Kingdom, with 12 wind farms in operation there. The Hornsea site is still particularly notable, since once Hornsea 3 is put into service, “ the Ørsted site in Hornsea – comprising the Hornsea 1, 2 and 3 offshore wind farms – will have a combined capacity of more than 5 GW. »

As a result, it will quite simply be the largest offshore wind site in the world, which will also benefit from synergies between Hornsea 1, 2 and Hornsea 3. Which “ will translate [alors] by lower operating costs than those observed until now. » Furthermore, thanks to contracts concluded before the surge in material costs, the construction of Hornsea 3 should be able to be carried out at competitive prices.
