this year again, Surface products should continue to stagnate

German media WinFuture has unearthed information about the upcoming Surface Laptop Studio, Surface Laptop Go, and Surface Go from online retailers. We learn in particular that Microsoft would have no other ambition for these products than to develop their technical sheet…

This year again, Microsoft would have no intention of changing the design of its Surface devices. In any case, this is what the findings of WinFuture suggest. Often well informed, the German media has obtained information from online resellers on the next Surface Laptop Studio and Surface Laptop Go, but also on the next version of the accessible Surface Go tablet.

In this case, the three products would mainly rely on a hardware update, with a change of processor. We can think that the same will be true for the other products in the range, despite a design that is now dated, particularly for the Surface Laptop.

On certain models, Microsoft will take advantage of this in any case to switch to Intel processors.Alder Lake» (12th generation), with the latest chips «Raptor Lake» (13th generation). This corresponds to the brand’s habits for Surface products, often brought up to date during the fall.

Towards a new timid update of Surface products?

According to information unearthed by WinFuture, the Surface Laptop Studio would be equipped this year with an Intel Core i7-13800H processor. This chip has a thermal envelope of 45 W and can go up to a frequency of 5 GHz. In particular, there are 6 high-performance cores and 8 low-power cores. It would be coupled here with 16 or 32 GB of RAM, while the storage would be limited to 512 GB or 1 TB of SSD.

On this new Surface Laptop Studio, Microsoft would however install more USB Type-C ports, but would continue to use the same design. We would therefore find a 14.4-inch PixelSense screen, offering a 2.4K definition (2400 x 1600 pixels), all in 3:2 format.

Regarding the new Surface Laptop Go, and to reduce costs on this entry-level product, Microsoft would, however, limit itself to an older generation processor.Alder Lake», the Core i5-1235U. This processor combines 2 high-performance cores and 8 high-energy efficiency cores, for frequencies up to 4.4 GHz. The device would, however, still feature a maximum of 8GB of RAM and rely on either 128 or 256GB of internal storage. No design change would be on the program.

Same approach for the accessible Surface Go tablet, which would adopt a quad-core Intel N200 processor from the “Alder Lake-N», capable of climbing to 3.7 GHz. Alongside it, 8 GB of RAM (presumably, the 4 GB references would disappear from Microsoft’s catalog) and 64, 128 or 256 GB of internal storage.

The official presentation of these different products should take place on September 21, during a Surface event mentioned by WinFuture. It is nevertheless a safe bet that their effective marketing will only take place from October… with a possible increase in prices compared to the 2022 models.
