this young woman testifies with humor

Léa experienced a denial of pregnancy. She recounts her experience on Twitter, thus opening the floor to this little-known and stigmatized phenomenon.

Léa, in her twenties, enjoys photography and concerts. A young woman like us, what? On October 4, 2020, taking stomach aches, she went to the emergency room thinking of renal colic. But once there, surprise: she is in fact in labor, and gives birth to a baby girl 3 hours later.
A story she chose to share on Twitter, in a tone that was half stunned, half astonished, which moved Internet users: the post was liked 30,000 times.

The testimonies on the denial of pregnancy are often distressing, and the media coverage of dramas like the Courjault affair, this triple infanticide which made the front page in 1999, does not help to free the speech. It is therefore gratifying to see a young woman welcome this new life with so much enthusiasm and derision.
Same energy on the comments side. "Congratulations to you even if there is also the time of acceptance I know relatives who have lived it, writes a surfer. Denial of pregnancy is an incredible thing. Welcome to your little princess … It's beautiful and scary to having a child without being prepared at all is panicking … but also the most beautiful thing. Congratulations "
Others testify, such as this doctor who recounts a patient who had a stomach ache "after eating a kebab", or this woman who thought she had consumed "too many mirabelles", or this other who thought she had appendicitis …
This post is also an opportunity to recall that denials of pregnancy are quite rare, since they only represent 3 births in 1,000 each year, according to the program La Maison des Maternelles. There are two types. First, partial pregnancy denial, when the pregnancy is discovered after the first trimester of pregnancy, but before term, where the person's body sometimes changes within a few hours of the announcement. Then there is the one told in this thread, called “total pregnancy denial”, where pregnancy is not discovered until the time of delivery.
We wish the new mother much happiness.
