After his controversial appearance in "The Last Instance", Thomas Gottschalk speaks out – he doesn't want to apologize.

Thomas Gottschalk (70) has caused a sensation with two appearances in the past few weeks. As a participant in the WDR talk show "The Last Instance", he made negative headlines, and last week he directed unfriendly words to the public broadcaster on the digital "Clubhouse" platform. In the "Welt am Sonntag", the former "Wetten, dass …?" Moderator is now speaking again on the topic to explain "his view of things".

He has tried his entire professional life to please everyone, but ends up "repeatedly between the chairs". He can handle charges better than disappointments, said Gottschalk. "It never occurred to me to learn from damage and finally shut up." Therefore, a "chat room like clubhouse" acts like a drug on him. The entertainer confirms that he is a fan of public service broadcasting. "It wasn't an 'angry speech'."

On the contrary: he "fights at every opportunity for a system" that he thinks "makes sense" and to which he "owes a great career". He is sorry to have disappointed people, he either knows "how to deal" with charges or "simply doesn't care" about them.

He doesn't want to apologize for his appearance in "The Last Instance"

He learned from his controversial appearance in the WDR talk show "The Last Instance", which caused a wave of criticism because four white celebrities discussed racist language without the involvement of those affected. "I will no longer use certain terms." He does not want to avoid this "grudgingly because it forbids political correctness", but because a person with his eloquence has countless words at his disposal that are neither misleading nor come from a school of thought that "has thought up".

The "Z-Word", which he gave the green light in the "last instance", will be shown the red card in the future. He does not want to use the "unfortunate word" either "in connection with the damned sauce or with the schnitzel that goes with it." An apology for the appearance is not expected from Thomas Gottschalk. To apologize for "something that was meant neither hurtful nor malicious", he was "not ready today either".

However, he is ready to "learn and listen". "My view of the world emerged in the last century, and I accept that some things have to be adjusted. An old brain should be able to rethink," writes Gottschalk.
