The French Thomson has just announced a rather ambitious renewal of its catalog with regard to Gaming laptops. For its Roxxor range, the group focuses in particular on the latest generation components… and low prices.

In total, there are four new models that Thomson is announcing at the end of 2023. All (except one) are powered by 13th generation Intel processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000 mobile graphics cards. Enough to bring the manufacturer up to the level of the competition, at least on paper, all with relatively attractive prices, especially in the mid-range. The targeted adversary? Probably the German Medion, to name just one, which recently stood out with its Erazer range and its very good Major X20.

vvG15 and G16S: two devices well placed for gamers on a “tight” budget?

To hit the mark, Thomson is in any case renewing its affordable Roxxor G15 and Roxxor G16S models. We contacted the brand to obtain the price of the first in our latitudes, but we already know that the second will be sold between 1,499 and 2,099 euros depending on the options chosen. It should therefore be placed right in front of certain configurations of the ROG Strix G16 from Asus, or the best-equipped versions of the MSI Cyborg 15, for example.

In detail, the G15 (which should logically be sold for less than 1,500 euros) has a 12th generation Core i5-12450H (unlike the other gaming models announced by Thomson), coupled with 16 GB of DDR4 in 3200 MHz and a GeForce RTX 4050. The device also has a Full HD/144 Hz screen, 512 GB SSD and a 54 Wh battery. In terms of measurements, expect a thickness of 2.40 cm for 2.05 kg.

The Roxxor is available in 5 different configurations and is equipped with a maximum of an Intel Core i7-13700HX coupled with 32 GB of DDR5 at 4800 MHz and an RTX 4070. The best equipped versions of the machine can also count on a QHD+ and 16:10 panel, going up to 165Hz, as well as 1 TB of SSD and a 73 Wh battery. His measurements? 2.75 cm this time, for 2.45 kg.

G16 and G17: power and finesse on one side, lack of compromise on the other

We are moving upmarket with the Roxxor G16 and G17 which will tickle the market leaders with more muscular technical specifications… and inevitably higher prices. The G16 will thus be marketed at 2,299 euros, compared to a range going from 2,999 to 3,699 euros for the G17 according to the press release from Thomson France that we received.

For this price, the G16 can count on a powerful Core i9-13900H coupled with 32 GB of DDR5 clocked at 4800 MHz and an RTX 4070. There is a 16-inch QHD+ and 16:10 screen up to 240 Hz this time . On the storage side, the device houses a 1 TB SSD and is powered by a 73 Wh battery for an autonomy announced around 7 hours… which we strongly doubt given what the competition equipped in this way offers.

We discover on the other hand that the G16 will not exceed 1.99 cm in thickness and 3.29 kg, which will make it a compact, but rather heavy product.

Perched on the top of Thomson’s range at the end of 2023, the Roxxor G17 wishes, for its part, to deliver an experience without real compromises with four distinct configurations, equipped with a maximum of one Core i9-13900HX, supported by 32 GB of DDR5 at 5600 MHz, and an RTX 4090 (Core i7 / RTX 4080 versions exist). The storage remains at 1 TB of SSD but the screen increases to 17.3 inches in 16:9 and QHD definition, for 240 Hz.

The battery also has a capacity of 99 Wh for autonomy reaching 10 hours according to Thomson. Here again, we would be very surprised to benefit from such longevity on such an energy-hungry configuration. The device is otherwise 2.49 cm thick and weighs 3.29 kg.
