Thor 4: these cameos not to miss in Love and Thunder

You couldn’t miss Thor, Jane Foster and their friends. Neither do the Guardians of the Galaxy, who show up at the very beginning of the film. But have you spotted those more low-key cameos in “Love and Thunder”?

WARNING – The article below contains minor spoilers for “Thor – Love and Thunder”, as it discusses some of its cameos. Certainly anecdotal in terms of the overall plot, but please move on if you want to know nothing at all.

Is a Marvel without a cameo really a Marvel? Since the first Iron Man and the appearance of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury after the end credits, there are countless actors and actresses who have come to pass a head according to the different phases. Sometimes to teaser the future. The rest of the time for a simple wink. Thor – Love and Thunder is obviously no exception to the rule, but its main guests were revealed from the start of filming, and in the trailer.

It is indeed the Guardians of the Galaxy, with which Thor had left at the end of Avengers Endgame, and which we find at the beginning of the story. But we come across other familiar faces throughout the story, even if it is not necessarily easy to recognize them all.

ROOMMATE IN THOR

When Jane Foster travels to Asgard, drawn by what remains of Mjölnir, the pieces of the hammer are displayed under a glass bell jar for tourists to view. And their guide is none other than Darryl, played by actor, screenwriter and director Daley Pearson, whose name may not ring a bell when he’s already appeared in the MCU. But not in movies or series: in short films.

Because he was Thor’s roommate in the three hilarious short films by Taika Waititi, in a style à la The Office (or What We Do In The Shadows, co-created by the director from his own feature film in the form of mockumentary). The first two told us what the hero was doing during the events of Civil War.

And the last put Jeff Goldblum on stage, to show us what he had become after Ragnarok and his downfall on Sakaar. To the great displeasure of Darryl, who is then looking for a new roommate and sees him arrive. Everything therefore suggests that he is now a resident of Asgard, where he has a new job, if not living in the same apartment as Thor.

BY ODIN!

Like Darryl, the other fun cameos aren’t entirely new. Because even if the inhabitants of Asgard have changed places, the cultural life of the kingdom is still doing well. The theatrical scene at least, represented by this troupe which replays the previous films for us. And its actors are embodied by Matt Damon, who slips into Loki’s costume. Luke Hemsworth (brother of Chris), who dons that of Thor. And Sam Neill, the Alan Grant of Jurassic Park, still unrecognizable as Odin, he who also played under the direction of the director in the magnificent The Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

The trio is this time joined by Melissa McCarthy, aka the evil Hela, played by Cate Blanchett in Thor Ragnarok. While Ben Falcone, actor and husband of the actress revealed by My best friends, appears in a role of manager during the sequence. If Taika Waititi is to sign on for another Marvel hero adventure, the big question will be who will play the stage versions of Jane Foster and Gorr, here played by Natalie Portman and Christian Bale.

Finally, the most observant (during the film or the credits) will not have failed to notice that the wolf woman with whom Thor gets along in the story told by Korg (Taika Waititi) is played by Elsa Pataky. Either the wife of Chris Hemsworth, also unrecognizable.
