Thorsten Kaye (Love, Fame and Beauty): “Ridge and Taylor will always be a couple”

The Love, Glory and Beauty series, Monday to Friday at 10:15 a.m. on France 2, celebrated its 35th anniversary during the last edition of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. This is where we met the man who took over the role of Ridge Forrester for eleven years already.

When did you feel that you appropriated the character of Ridge Forrester?

Thorsten Kaye: I am unable to answer this question, it is rather for others to say it.

What do you think of Krista Allen, who has succeeded for a few months to Hunter Tylo in the role of Taylor?

They don’t have the same energy. One arrived on set as if it were already there, while the other is always in motion. For me, it’s much more fun to watch. Even though I hadn’t toured with Hunter so much, I could see that they had different styles, and I can see which one works best with the public.

Will Ridge and Taylor be a couple again?

You’ll have to keep watching the series to find out! But in a sense, they will always be a couple. They have a family together.

How has Covid-19 affected filming?

It was crazy. We were one of the first series to resume filming. We worked with inanimate mannequins. So we put a mannequin in front of me, to whom I gave the line. Then we would shoot the other part of the scene with another actor and a model in my place. It was very difficult. And kissing a model is very weird. But now, all that is over, even if I kept a few models at home! (Laughs.)

As Eric Braeden, who plays Victor Newman in the fires of love, you were born in Germany. Is there a secret there for soap opera actors?

In fact, it’s just the two of us. There are also a lot of actors who come from Canada. I really like Eric. He’s a good person when you get to know him. He is 81 years old! He did so many things. When he was younger, he was also a great athlete.

Why Love glory and beauty and The Fires of Love are they still successes when many other American soap operas have stopped in recent years?

Love glory and beauty is the only soap opera that takes place in a real city, in Los Angeles. All the others are in fictional towns. When people think of Los Angeles, they have a precise image of it, with supermodels, the sun, the beach. I played in other series with poor characters. It was interesting but the public doesn’t want that. He wants escape.
